A built in "Time Entry Assistant" helps you find things that you did that have not been associated with a time entry - never lose a billable minute!

Also included are a secure client portal for sharing documents, calendar entries and matter status notes with clients - safer and more secure than sharing information vis email. Not available as a stand-alone product, Billing Matters is a complete time tracking, billing and accounts receivable module that extends the functionality of Time Matters. There is no need for linking or integrating with a 3rd party system for billing - no conversion is involved, no data transfer or import. Billing Matters simply adds additional record types to the main Time Matters database and adds menu items for billing activities. If you already have Time Matters OR if you are looking for an integrated Time/Billing and Case Management solution, Time Matters with Billing Matters may be just the ticket.

LEAP is a new product to the US market, but they have been in Australia and the UK for years. LEAP promotes itself a completely integrated and highly customizable practice management solution - everything you need to run a small law firm INCLUDING TRUST ACCOUNTING and CHECK WRITING. It includes email and document management, automated document production, fully automated time billing (starting a document or email from LEAP automatically starts a timer running). LEAP uses a hybrid approach that stores all information in the cloud but gives you access to your files locally even when your Internet connection is down.

A primary advantage of LEAP is that your subscription includes access to an extensive selection of pre-structured legal documents that can be customized for your practice. The documents can then be automatically assembled (merged) to include information stored in your client and matter records. LEAP integrates with QuickBooks On-Line for General Ledger accounting.

The strength of PCLaw lies in its back office functionality - time tracking, billing and accounting. The general ledger and trust accounting functionality in PCLaw eliminate the need for a program like QuickBooks. If your case management needs are simple and you aren't looking for heavy duty document assembly or rule based calendaring then PCLaw will definitely do the trick. In fact, many firms purchase PCLaw for billing and accounting and integrate it with Time Matters (also from LexisNexis) for case management to get a complete front office/back office solution.

Time Matters is one of the most flexible case management systems on the market today. Screen and database customizations let you tailor the program to your practice, so that the fields on the screen reflect the type of data required for the specific matter or contact record. Rule based calendaring lets you standardize the activities scheduled for any matter type. Assign tasks to members of your firm and easily follow up on who has done what and what still needs to be done, and by when. Document automation and document assembly make your practice run like a well tuned machine, while triggers can preprogram events onto the calendar when certain actions take place, like automatically scheduling a follow call when documents are not received when requested.
